Hummingbird Scientific is a growing company looking for a talented engineer to join our group. You'll work closely with our engineering staff and clients in academia and industry to develop next-generation tools for electron and ion microscopy.

A strong candidate will have the following skills and experience. We understand that some of this stuff is probably going to be missing and, for the right person, we’re willing to train you.:

---3+ years experience, B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or mechatronics
---Demonstrated robotic and mechatronics skills
---Ability to design simple circuits, create schematics, and procure prototypes
---EExperience with electronics assembly, packaging, and troubleshooting
---Experience programming in LabView, C++, Visual Basic, MatLab
---Experience with small motors and actuators
---Experience with piezo and piezo actuators is a plus
---Ability to characterize a mechanical system and integrate a control system
---Hands on shop skills: ability to use drill press, milling machine, soldering, etc.
---Experience working with fabricators
---Experience working with scientists in academia and industry
---Project management experience, particularly of multiple small projects
---Knowledge of vacuum systems is a plus

Because we work very closely with a diverse range of clients, we are also looking for strong communication skills in both casual and formal situations. We're particularly interested in people who can take a "big-picture" view, identifying problems and taking a detailed and thorough approach to building solutions. Lastly, we place a very high value on using your brain, not just taking orders: We want you to tell us how we can do what we do better.
