Senior Precision Machinist/Toolmaker
Hummingbird is looking for motivated toolmakers to join our team.
We need an experienced self-starter who can solve challenging machining and manufacturing problems.
You will be part of our engineering team that develops next-generation systems for our clients in academia and industry.
This position provides exposure to a wide range of people and products. The right candidate will have a foundation in CNC milling and turning (grinding and EDM desired), and a strong desire to continue learning. You will have expert skills in prototyping and limited production of high-precision mechanisms and instrumentation. You will have a solid work history and references--we are not interested in people that have bounced from job to job. We are looking for a long-term team member, not just someone to fill the job slot.
You will be expected to machine your own parts, inspect them, assemble them, test them, and in time design them too.
Ideally, you will have exposure to all of the following:
- 10+ year experience in machining and prototype environment
- Expert 3-D CAD/CAM skills (we used SolidWorks and MasterCAM)
- Precision machining experience (0.0001" or better)
- Fanuc CNC controls
- Makino, Roku-Roku, and Mori-Seki CNC mills and precision lathes
- Wire EDM, sinker EDM, and precision grinding
- A varied range of materials including stainless steel, titanium, copper, aluminum, bronze, plastics, and ceramics
Optional (things you may know, but certainly will learn at Hummingbird Scientific):
All metric dimensioning and tolerancing, use of high vacuum systems, helium leak detector, brazing, TIG welding, precision micro spot welding, gold plating, epoxy, and use of precision measuring microscopes
Importantly, the right candidate will have strong communication skills and works well in collaboration with other experienced machinists and designers--the kind of person always coming up with new ideas, allowing us to do what we do even better. You will have the dexterity to frequently handle, measure, and assemble small parts, often using an optical microscope. If you have design skills, that's even better.
Compensation: This is a career-level, salaried position. Our pay rates are very competitive. Please include your salary history with your application.
