Senior Mechanical Engineer / Principal Investigator

Hummingbird Scientific is a growing company looking for a talented engineer to join our group. You'll work closely with our engineering staff and clients in academia and industry to develop next-generation tools for electron and ion microscopy. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in a closely related field: semi-conductor equipment design, precision machine tool design, precision engineering, or micro-mechanical component design.

A strong candidate will have:

---8-15 years experience, M.S. or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering
---Background in designing high precision mechanisms.
---Project management experience, particularly of multiple small projects
---Strong skills in 3-D CAD (prefer Solidworks)
---Strong skills with FEA for mechanical and thermal analysis
---Experience working with fabricators (machinists, welders, etc.)
---Experience designing devices for vacuum systems
---Experience working with scientists in academia and industry
---Familiarity with programming for microprocessors and/or PCs
---Experience laying out, fabricating and testing simple circuits
--- Experience with writing grants or proposals

Because we work very closely with a diverse range of clients, we are also looking for strong communication skills in both casual and formal situations. We're particularly interested in people who can take a "big-picture" view, identifying problems and taking a detailed and thorough approach to building solutions. Lastly, we place a very high value on using your brain, not just taking orders: We want you to tell us how we can do what we do better.
