Connect holder metadata to the microscope workflow you already use.
Hummingbird Connect™ is Hummingbird Scientific’s software integration capability for microscope-manufacturer environments. It supports verified and project-specific connections between Hummingbird systems and the software used by microscope manufacturers, research facilities, and customers.
Depending on the Hummingbird product, microscope, software version, available interfaces, and project scope, an integration pathway may make relevant system information and experimental-state data available within the wider microscopy workflow. This helps laboratories incorporate Hummingbird hardware into the acquisition, analysis, automation, and data-management environments they already use.
Hummingbird Connect™ is part of Colibri Platform™, Hummingbird Scientific’s open software and data platform for in situ microscopy. It does not replace microscope operating or acquisition software, analysis tools, automation platforms, or institutional data systems. Laboratories can continue using their selected software environments rather than building the experiment around a Hummingbird-only application.

Explore microscope-manufacturer integration pathways
Select your microscope manufacturer to review available pathways, configuration requirements, and project-specific integration options.
Ask your microscope manufacturer
Ask your microscope manufacturer to support Hummingbird hardware within its software and workflow environment. Visible customer demand can help prioritize integration for specific configurations while keeping instrument control and acquisition within the manufacturer’s environment.
Working in another software or data environment?
Hummingbird can evaluate project-specific pathways involving customer-selected Python tools, open-source software, institutional data systems, repositories, and other laboratory environments.

What a Hummingbird Connect™ pathway may include
Depending on the Hummingbird system, software environment, available interfaces, and project scope, an integration pathway may involve:
- Hummingbird holder, stage, chip, controller, or system identification
- Available commanded and measured values from a specific Hummingbird Control™ product
- Experimental-state information such as temperature, pressure, flow, voltage, current, position, alarms, or timestamps where supported
- Export or exchange of available data with a defined microscope-manufacturer or customer environment
- Timing or workflow coordination for a specified microscope and software configuration
- Customer-side scripting, reference workflows, or project-specific engineering
- Technical coordination with microscope manufacturers, facilities, and customer software teams
These pathways may support liquid cell TEM, gas cell TEM, heating, electrical biasing, electrochemistry, cryogenic microscopy, tomography, SEM, FIB-SEM, precision motion, and custom in situ experiments.
Not every function is available for every product or microscope environment. Each pathway is evaluated against the specific hardware, software, interfaces, and experimental objective.

From microscope-software integration to an open, connected workflow
Hummingbird Connect™ provides the software-integration capabilities within Colibri Platform™. It supports verified and project-specific connections between Hummingbird systems and microscope-manufacturer, facility, and customer-selected software environments.
Within the same platform, Hummingbird Control™ controls and monitors the physical experiment through Hummingbird hardware, while the open-data approach supports the use of available experimental information across analysis, automation, institutional systems, Python workflows, and future AI environments. Our team can then determine whether the requirement can be addressed through an existing Hummingbird Control™ or export capability, a supported integration pathway, customer-selected tools, or a scoped development project.

Frequently asked questions
Hummingbird Connect™ is Hummingbird Scientific’s software integration capability for microscope-manufacturer environments. It supports verified and project-specific connections between Hummingbird systems and OEM, facility, and customer-selected software environments.
No. Microscope-manufacturer software remains responsible for microscope operation and acquisition. Hummingbird Connect™ supports defined pathways between Hummingbird systems and the wider software environment.
Yes. Hummingbird welcomes discussions involving compatibility, reference workflows, joint development, licensing, private-label programs, and customer-specific integration.
Provide the microscope manufacturer and model, software version, Hummingbird system, desired workflow outcome, available interfaces, and any facility security or support requirements.
Not always. Some requirements may be addressed through existing Hummingbird Control™ or export capabilities, supported integration pathways, or customer-side tools. Others require scoped engineering or coordinated development.
